Client Case Study: Irish Water – Swell Project

25/07/2022  |
Case history
Sector: Municipal Wastewater

Client: Irish Water working with BSG Civil as the principal contractor, as part of the ‘Swell’ project.

Project Overview & Scope:
SAVECO was approached for a quote on the supply of screening and grit treatment for two brand new sites in the Republic of Ireland as part of the Swell project. This is a €35m EU-funded project to improve the water quality by upgrading wastewater assets on both sides of the Irish border.

SAVECO is playing a key role in supplying:

•Screens (GCPC screen with manual bypass tank) – preparing a bespoke design based on customer requirements. Screening to 5mm, flow rate of 62 l/s. In 304SS offering compaction, screen, and tube washing.

•Grit classifier (DS), which ensures efficient separation of grit or sand from wastewater through decantation and removal by means of a conveyor screw. 304SS to compliment the GCPC.

Project Value & Duration:
•<£100,000. 6 months for design, manufacture, supply and delivery.

Project Outcomes

The project is not due for completion yet - however a recent site install visit in February 2022 confirmed that SAVECO has fulfilled all key deliverables to date – helping support the overall Swell project in making a positive contribution towards “Good Ecological Status” under the EU Water Framework Directive.

Longer-term, the project’s legacy will be developing a unique ecosystem model that will support sustainable improvements to manage cross-border wastewater assets and ultimately improve water quality within the shared waters of Carlingford Lough and Lough Foyle.
